WORKS FOR THE COVERING STRUCTURE OF THE RONDA DE DALT TO BEGIN NEXT JULY
 
The City Council of Barcelona has announced the beginning of works for the covering structure of the Ronda del Dalt in the area of Horta-Guinardó next July. Works to be performed between Mercat and the Vall d’Hebron Institute also include the urban planning of side roads along the 180m long section. Its budget is of 15M€. In 2018, once the central wall is built, the supporting side walls of the forthcoming slab will be built without traffic cuts. In the meantime, the urban planning criteria for the new covering structure will be agreed in consensus with neighbors demands. A second 320m long section until Jericó street will be promoted in the forthcoming term of office.
Esteyco is responsible for the Final Design of the section between Jerico street and Jordà Avenue. In parallel, we are in charge of the Preliminary Design of the covering structure between Jordà Avenue and Harmonía street. This means that a 950m extension of the tunnel that will be implemented this summer.

THE LARGEST CHILEAN WIND FARM INITIATES OPERATION
 
Latin America Power starts the operational phase of the largest wind farm in Chile, San Juan Wind Farm, with a total installed capacity of 184.8 MW and located in the Region of Atacama.
After energizing the plant's elevating substation, together with the High Voltage Transmission line and the Connecting Substation to the electrical grid, and once the 56 wind turbines of San Juan have been set up and commissioned, it is time to start the phase of full operation which, to date, is the largest wind farm in Chile.
ESTEYCO has participated carrying out the wind farm engineering and assisting LAP during the works execution, wind turbines assembly and commissioning.

THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT GIVES THE GREEN LIGHT FOR THE KINCARDINE MARINE WIND FARM
 
Kincardine Wind Farm construction, located in front of the Aberdeen coastline, has been approved by the Scottish government. Eight wind turbines are going to be installed with the floating system developed by Kincardine Offshore Windfarm Limited, where Esteyco participates as a designer and will generate enough energy to power nearly 56,000 homes and avoid more than 94,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The world's "largest offshore wind turbine" is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2018.
It is estimated that this € 285 million marine wind farm project will create about 110 jobs during the assembly, installation and maintenance activities which is to be located about 15 km southeast of the city.

ADRIÁN MENDOZA VISITS WORKS OF MLRT OFFSHORE TOWER IN ARINAGA, THE CANARY ISLANDS
 
Deputy Regional Minister of Industry, Energy and Trade for the Canary Islands, Adrián Mendoza, underlined during his visit last Thursday that the fact that the first wind turbine in Spain directly resting on the seabed is located in the Canary Islands shows the potential of the islands in this respect.
President of Esteyco Energía, Miguel Ángel Fernández, accompanied Adrián Mendoza during his visit to installation works which are planned to be finished by May this year.
Furthermore, Mendoza recalled that this project, in which other companies such as GAMESA, ALE Heavy-Lift and DEWI-UL participate, will be installed in the area of PLOCAN (Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias, Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands), at 30 meters deep. This puts the Canary Islands in a leading position in the field of the marine wind energy.
This prototype, which has an approximate cost of 15 million euros, is partially financed by the European Union through the H2020 program. It is the first wind turbine installed with no need for costly and scarce heavy-lift vessels which means significant cost reduction.
President of Esteyco Energía said that the assembly of auxiliary equipment is currently underway. Some of them have been built at ASTICAN, the Canarian shipyard and they are necessary for its final move. Furthermore, he added that they are awaiting for the 5MW wind turbine by Gamesa and its assembly in April.

ESTEYCO PARTICIPATES IN THE DEBATE ABOUT THE DIAGONAL TRAM IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE TRAM-CITY CONFERENCE IN BARCELONA
 
Last 7th and 8th March, took place the Tram-City conference, organized by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), through the Sustainability Institute and the Technical School of Civil Engineers of Barcelona with the support from the Barcelona City Council and the Infrastructure Circle.
The conference, which was inaugurated by Samuel I. Schwartz, chief engineer of the New York Department of Transportation between 1982 and 1990. The event, moderated by Daniel Rodríguez from Esteyco and professor of urbanism at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona, exposed its experiences in the Dutch cities, giving the floor to Joan Moreno, who explained the close relationship between mobility and urban planning that exists in the Netherlands, and to Mariana Faver, a researcher at Delta Metropool association, who explained the mechanisms of urban management in the new growth areas of cities based on the implementation of public transport as the backbone of their management.
